During her recent trip to Pittsburgh, AFT President Randi Weingarten met with several adjunct organizing committee members and the President of the CCAC Faculty Federation.
On Monday, March 9th, four members of the organizing committee and John Dziak, president of AFT Local 2046, met with CCAC president Quentin Bullock. Not only did this meeting give CCAC adjuncts an opportunity to give president Bullock formal notification that we intend to form a union, but it served as a forum to discuss some of the issues facing CCAC adjucts and students.
After months of hard work, the adjunct faculty at the Community College of Allegheny County have filed authorization cards with the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board. The authorization cards, which were signed in by adjuncts in every department and campus, demonstrate the huge level of support or a union of adjuncts at CCAC.
Filing the authorization cards is a huge step in the process for forming a union, but it certainly isn't the last. There is a lot of hard work left to be done. Contact an organizer or organizing committee member to find out how you can help make the union a reality! Or, you can e-mail ccacadjuncts@gmail.com for more information.
Patience—counseled by former Vice President Joe Biden all election week as Americans waited for votes to be counted—finally paid off Nov. 7, four days after Election Day, when Biden won in Pennsylvania and gained enough Electoral College votes to acquire a new title: president-elect. AFT President Randi Weingarten says the union’s leaders and members “can’t wait to get started” on the work ahead “with an administration that will embrace and fight for the values we hold dear.”
